It should put your mind at ease knowing that for the past 25 years, La Gratitude has been home to 120 Frail and Physically Challenged residents from all over South Africa. All persons here past the age of 60 chose to make La Gratitude their home. A place to live their frail years in an environment where all their needs are met.

Beyond occasional health concerns, find solace in the knowledge that our dedicated team of qualified professionals manages your medication with meticulous care, always prioritizing your health.

At La Gratitude Frail Care Facility bid farewell to the burden of frequent and taxing trips to the doctor’s office. Here, you benefit from regular visits by a multidisciplinary team comprising Medical Doctors, Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists.

Chronic illness need not equate to perpetual worry. We offer continuous nursing care tailored to the needs of elderly individuals grappling with conditions associated with ageing. Our support extends to residents coping with frailty, strokes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s and dementia-related ailments, and other age-related illnesses.

Rest assured, our focus on Palliative and preventative Geriatric care ensures an enhanced quality of life within our compassionate and controlled environment.

In certain cases, rehabilitation may be necessary. As part of the La Gratitude family, rest assured that such circumstances are met with our extensive expertise and readiness to deliver optimal care. Moreover, alongside the mentioned services, we provide Respite Care, offering family members and caregivers the opportunity for planned short-term breaks with full confidence in their loved one’s well-being.

The Frail Care Facility Offers Extended Services

There is much more to living your Golden Years than your physical health. This is especially true for single elderly people who have lost their life partners. We know that the environment where you will be spending most of your time is crucial to your well-being. The Frail Care Facility is perfectly structured in many aspects to provide for your daily needs.

La Gratitude is the place where you become a family member and an integral part of a community. A place where you feel at home, make good friends and have the opportunities to be part of social activities. Being socially active contributes to mental well-being.

Activities At Lagratitude

Avid readers will be pleased to know that you have access to the in-house library and the Newcastle Library visit once a week. For the more spiritual individuals, we regularly host Bible Study sessions and Church Services every Sunday.

Entertainment and recreation activities are organised with the assistance of various Faith-Based, Religious and Voluntary Organisations. This includes gaming events like Bingo, and Rummikub and Interactive musical events.

Other popular activities at the Frail Care Facility are Keeping Fit with weekly Exercise sessions for Seniors, Pet Therapy, Concerts and fundraising initiatives.

Comfort Services

You will be pleased to know that inside the Frail Care Facility, we provide services to make your life easier. These services reduce the need to make trips to town and simply provide you with comforts like not having to be concerned with housekeeping and laundry. The in-house hair salon is a pleasure to visit and for those quick little extras, there is a tuckshop selling various goods.

The past 25 years in operation not only gave us the experience to provide optimal care to residents but at the same time showed us where to improve our facilities to enable excellent care.

It is worth mentioning that we strictly follow non-discriminatory policies with regard to culture, religion, race and language. Therefore creating a pleasant environment for all residents from all walks of life.

Frail Care Accommodation Overview

Inside the Frail Care Facility are fifty-one (51) Single Rooms, thirty-three (33) Double Rooms, Two La Harmoni flats and a Bachelor’s flat.

Accommodation Inside the Frail Care Retirement Home

• Fully furnished single rooms.
• Fully furnished double rooms.
• Call buttons in the rooms and bathrooms.
• Communal dining rooms.
• Monthly counselling with a social worker.
• 24-hour audio & visual CCTV surveillance.

Medical Assistance

• 24-hour sickbay access.
• Medication management & administration.
• On-site clinic services.
• Weekly on-site Medical Doctor, Physiotherapist, Speech Therapist and Occupational Therapist.
• 24-hour nursing care for the elderly suffering from illnesses due to normal ageing.
• 24-hour nursing care for residents suffering from frailty, strokes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer’s and Dementia related diseases.
• 24-hour nursing care for residents experiencing other age-related illnesses.
• Palliative and Geriatric services within a caring and controlled environment.
• Various Paramedic and Rehabilitation services.
• Respite care provides planned short-term and time-limited breaks for families and other unpaid caregivers.

Additional Care Services

• Psychosocial services include counselling, group work addressing interpersonal relationships and reintegration/reunification services.
• Spiritual support and religious services through the support of volunteers and religious organisations.
• Various recreational services.
• Awareness initiatives by the Social Worker and Nursing staff inform residents regarding geriatric issues from a healthcare and psychosocial aspect.
• Monthly counselling sessions by the full-time Social Worker.

• Three nutritious meals per day including tea/coffee.
• Laundry and cleaning services.
• Inhouse hair salon.
• A tuckshop selling various goods.
• In-house library and the Newcastle Library visit once a week.
• Bible study and Church services every Sunday.
• Newcastle Medi Clinic within 200m.
• Entertainment and recreation activities are organised with the assistance of volunteers from various Faith Based, Religious and Voluntary Organisations.

Boarding & Lodging Tariffs

• Tariffs are payable in advance on the 1^st of every month.
• The annual rental increase is on the 1^st of April.

Please Note

• Visiting hours are as follows: Morning: 09:00 – 11:00 and Afternoon: 14:00 – 16:00
• A subsidy for state pensioners (SASSA) is received, and the resident’s family will be responsible for the balance.
