The Full Armour of God: What it Means to be Prepared for Spiritual Warfare
Welcome to our Bible study blog post where we will be discussing the importance of taking up the full armour of God as children of God. Today we will be using a video from the YouTube Channel: Grace For Purpose Prayers, titled: Put on the full armour of God.
But before we start, let us take a moment to remind ourselves of our previous two Bible study posts, “Learning from Jesus And Following His Example in Our Daily Lives.” and “God’s Gifts To Us: Discovering Our Unique Talents and Overcoming Challenges Through Faith and Perseverance.”. You can find these posts and more on our blog.
Taking Up the Whole Armour of God
Ephesians 6:13 (NKJV) says, “Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Let’s deconstruct this verse to see what it means to us as children of God.
The first part of the verse is an instruction. It is not a question; we are told to take up the whole armour of God. This is a clear instruction and something we need to do as believers.
The second thing to note is that we only need armour if we are at war. We only need armour in battle and when there is an opposing force that’s coming against us. The Bible says the “Whole” armour, which means that there are multiple parts that need to be taken up.
Anything other than the whole armour will leave us vulnerable. Therefore, it is important to follow this instruction and take up not only parts of the armour but the whole armour of God.
“That you may be able to withstand the evil day” is the second part of this verse. This statement has a level of certainty to it. We need to take up the whole armour of God so that we can withstand the evil day.
This is the Bible warning us that there will be an evil day, a day when we will have to fight the forces of evil. These forces can attack in many forms, but if we are wearing the whole armour of God, we will be able to withstand anything the Devil aims in our direction.
Our Defensive and Offensive Stance
As true disciples of Christ, we are at war against the rules, the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. In these moments, we need to be reminded that the Word is central to our defensive stance, as well as our offensive stance as Christians.
Therefore, when we face the evil day, we need to remember 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NKJV) which says, “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.” This verse shows that the Lord is with us and will guard us against the evil one.
We also need to remember Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV), “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” This verse encourages us to be strong and courageous and reminds us that the Lord is always with us.
Finally, we need to remember Psalm 46:1 (NKJV) which says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” This verse assures us that God is our refuge and strength, and He is always present to help us in times of trouble.
Applying the Verses to Our Lives
As Christians, it is essential to put on the whole armour of God to face the spiritual battles we encounter in our lives. The armour helps us stand firm against the schemes of the enemy and fight against the powers of darkness. We can apply the lessons we learn from this passage to our daily lives.
Know the Word of God
The first and most important part of the armour is the Belt of Truth. This represents the importance of knowing and applying the Word of God in our lives. We must be people who know the truth, and the truth will set us free. We can stand firm in our faith when we understand and believe the truth of God’s Word.
Live Righteously
The Breastplate of Righteousness represents a life of integrity, obedience, and righteousness. When we put on this piece of armour, we are protected from the enemy’s attacks that aim to discourage and accuse us of sin. We must strive to live a life that is pleasing to God and reject the sinful desires of our flesh.
Be Ready to Share the Gospel
The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace represent a readiness to share the good news of the gospel with others. As Christians, we must be prepared to share the love of Christ with those around us. The gospel brings peace, and we must be willing to take it wherever we go.
Faith in God
The Shield of Faith represents our trust and belief in God. We must have faith in God’s promises and be confident in his ability to protect and provide for us. The enemy will try to attack our faith, but we must remember that our God is greater and more powerful than any attack.
Salvation
The Helmet of Salvation represents the assurance of our salvation in Christ. When we put on this piece of armour, we are reminded of the hope and joy we have in Christ. We must hold onto this hope and live with the assurance that our salvation is secure in him.
The Word of God and Prayer
The Sword of the Spirit represents the Word of God and prayer. We must be people who pray and seek God’s wisdom and guidance in all aspects of our lives. The Word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. We can use it to overcome the enemy’s attacks and to stand firm in our faith.
A Prayer for Strength and Protection: Putting on the Full Armour of God
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the reminder that as your children, we are engaged in a spiritual battle. Help us to always remember to put on the whole armour of God so that we can stand firm against the enemy’s schemes. Strengthen us with your mighty power, so that we can withstand any attacks that come our way.
Lord, we pray for wisdom and understanding as we meditate on your word. May the verses we have discussed today become a source of strength and encouragement for us, reminding us of your promises and your unfailing love.
We also ask for your protection and guidance as we face the challenges of each day. Help us to be bold and courageous, knowing that you are with us always. And may our lives be a shining example of your love and grace, drawing others closer to you.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
Reflecting on the Importance of the Full Armour of God
In this conversation, we discussed a Bible study on the topic of the full armour of God, based on a video by Grace For Purpose Prayers. We deconstructed Ephesians 6:13 and explored its meaning for us as children of God.
We learned that putting on the whole armour of God is essential for standing firm in the face of a spiritual battle and that this armour includes various elements, such as truth, righteousness, faith, and the word of God.
We also discussed several Bible verses that offer encouragement and strength in times of spiritual warfare, including 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Deuteronomy 31:6, and Psalm 46:1.
Through this discussion, we were reminded of the importance of staying connected to God and relying on His strength and promises.
Our conversation today highlighted the reality of spiritual warfare and the importance of putting on the whole armour of God. As we face challenges and trials in our daily lives, we can find comfort and strength in knowing that God is with us and that we have His protection and guidance.
Let us continue to seek Him and His truth, and may our lives be a testament to His love and grace.
